JAL MAHAL - JAIPUR (RAJASTHAN)


The Jal Mahal literally means "Water Palace". Jal Mahal is located at the centre of Man Sagar Lake of Jaipur. Jal Mahal is one of the most popular tourist places to visit because there is a charm and beauty about Jaipur that is rather unmatched. Jaipur has many palace with marvelous architecture and rich history along with them. Jal Mahal has been the most photographed spot of the city, and romantic boating trips across the lake will give a visitor the spectacular view of Jal Mahal in all its magnificent glory. 

Today the building is inaccessible to tourists, although plans are afoot to convert it into a restaurant. Visitors wishing to see the building will hav to suffice with the view from land which is even more spectacular in the evening when the ancient Water Palace is illuminated as though there is some secret soiree occuring just out of reach.

The star attraction is reaching the Mahal through a boat rider in those handicrafted and beautifully decorated wooden boats. Jal Mahal is now open for visitors. Visit to explore the glory and grandeur of Rajasthan.

HISTORY

Jal Mahal was constructed in the year 1750 by Maharaja Madho Singh. The Mahal was never built with an intention to be used as a palace. Madho Singh just wished to have it as a lodge for himself and as a place for his duck hunting parties. During the 18th century, Madho Singh's son- Madho Singh II enhanced the beauty of the place by adding countryard grounds to it.

ARCHITECTURE

Jal Mahal features a blend of traditional Rajput and Mughal architectural style. The halls and chambers of the palace have light sand colour stone walls which are at stark contrast with the deep blue of the water of the lake.

THINGS TO CARRY WHILE VISITING

• Comfortable shoes should be worn to ensure a hassle free tour of the palace.

• Hats and sunglasses are recommended in the summer or day time as it gets quite hot during those hours.

• Cameras to capture the utmost beauty of the palace.

HOW TO REACH

The most convenient way to reach Jal Mahal from Jaipur Airport is by Taking a taxi that will take around 15 minutes to reach out there. You can also take a direct bus from the Sanganer  Police Station to reach Jal Mahal. It probably takes 1 hour to reach.
