AMER FORT - JAIPUR (RAJASTHAN)



Amer Fort is also known as Amber Fort located in Amer, Rajasthan. One of the tourists attractions of Jaipur, the huge Amer Palace Fort Sits atop a small hill, and is located at a distance of about 11 away from the main City Centre. This majestic building is architectural masterpiece and with significant important in Indian History. Amer Fort is clad in pink and yellow sandstone and is a part of an extensive complex. Built by the legendary Raja Man Singh sometime in the 17th century. Thr entire structure took 100 years to be built. Amer Fort served as the main residence of the Rajput Rulers.

The Fort is divided into Four main section that are graced with their own countryards. As you arrived at the Amer Fort, you will enter through the Suraj Pol unless you arrived by car, then you enter via the Chand Pol. Both these gates open into the Jaleb Chowk, which is the main countryard where in earlier times, returning armies used to display their plunder to the people. The Fort has a number of section including the King's Quarters, The Zenana , Gardens and Temples etc.

The Fort is big enough that it will take your 3-4 hours to explore it in detail and completely. Getting an elephant ride up the stairs to the Amber Fort is also a popular tourist activity.

HISTORY OF AMER FORT

Amer City was a small town built by a small tribe named Meenas. The Fort got it ne from Ambikeshwar, another name of Lord Shiva while locals beleive that its name has been derived from Amba, Another Goddess Durga.
It was in the yea re 1592AD that Raja Man Singh built the fort with expansion and renovation efforts carrying on for the next 150 years by his successors. The older placed named 'Kadimi Mahel' is regarded as the oldest palace of the country.

AMER FORT ARCHITECTURE

It is aesthetically crafted out of marble and red sandstone giving it a rustic and mystic look. Amer fort has a traditional Hindu and Rajputana style of Architecture.
