TEHRI DAM - TEHRI GARHWAL (UTTRAKHAND)




Tehri Dam on the Bhagirathi River in Tehri Garhwal District of Uttarakhand India is the tallest dam in India with a height of 260.5m with a total planned capacity of around 2400MW. It is the biggest Hydroelectric Power Plant in India.

The length of the dam is around 575 meters, crest width 20 metersand base with 1130 meters, dam creates a reservoir of 4.0 cubic km having a surface around 53 square meters.



HISTORY OF TEHRI DAM 

Construction of Tehri Dam was opposed by prominent environmental activities as it was considered to have negative empact on the environment and the fragile ecosystem of the Himalayas. With the help of USSR and the dam was finally constructed and completed in 2006.

ADVENTURE SPORTS AT TEHRI DAM 

1. Jet Skiing - Jet skiing is one of the adventure sports which attract which often attract tourists and visitors at the Tehri Dam.

2. Paragliding - The pilot is harnessed to the aerodynamic shaped parachute which glides and soarin the sky at the will of the pilot.

3. Hotdog Ride - The participants sitting atop the inflatable boat are made to go overboard and into the waves of the Tehri Lake.

The best time to visit Tehri Dam is in the month of January February March April May June  July November and December.

BY AIR - The nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport Dehradun which is around 91 km away from Tehri Garhwal.

BY RAILWAY - The nearest Railway Station is Rishikesh Railway Station .

BY ROAD - Tehri Town is well connected by Motorable roads with major destination of Uttrakhand and northern Indian states of India. Buses and taxis are well connected and easily available.
