ROHTANG LA - (HIMACHAL PRADESH)

Located at a distance of 51 km from Manali. Rohtang pass can be reached only by roads. The pass is located at a massive height of 3979 metres on an Manali Keylong Road. While planning to visit Manali, a day off to the Vista point of Rohtang Pass is the ultimate and almost essential attraction of the itinerary.

An experience of the snow can never be complete without a single sledge ride. Which involves sliding through the snow in a wooden toboggan. Another thrilling activity that can be persued at Rohtang Pass would be mountain biking where you ride your mountain bike off the regular course and into the lesser taken routes. It spot more than 25 lakhs visitor every year, however the route are completely covered in winter and hardly anyone can visit this place in snowfall. In May, rohtang become a place for nature enthusiasts and adventure sports such as skiing, skating, paragliding, snow scooter etc. 

BEST TIME TO VISIT ROHTANG PASS

The best time to visit rohtang la pass is from the second week of September to the second week of October. During this time, the pass opens just after monsoon and before it closes for winters. It is recommended to plan your trip during this region. As a result, it gets quite different to get a permit to cross the pass. Additionally, there are long traffic jams in Manali, Rohtang and Gulaba. 

Due to increased tourism activity, the price are shoot up during these months. If you plan your trip between September and October you may able to get cheaper deals. 

ROHTANG PASS PERMIT

The Himachal Tourism website allows you to apply for the pass and it is valid for 24 hours. You need only 1 permit to pass through Rohtang La to and fro. However, it should be noted that the government does not grant an unlimited number of passes, and there are only a limited number of passes available each day. You will need valid proof of identity, a pollution check certificate for your vehicle, vehicle registration documents that shows date of registration. 

NEAR BY ATTRACTIONS

NEHRU KUND - Nehru Kund is a natural spring that some beleive has healing properties. The water at the spring comes out bubbling from the rocks and it is beleived that the source of the spring is Bhrigu Lake. The pleasant bubbling noise, along with scenic vistas of the mountain make this place a must visit destination. 

VASHISHTH HOT SPRING - It is beleived that the village near these spring is where Rishi Vashisht used to meditate. The hot water spring are actually sulphur spring, and people around the area beleive that they are a great treatment option for skin problem and other infection. 

MARHI - This is a lesser known tourist destination about 35 km from Manali. It si famous for water sports activities and pristine natural beauty. Most people head on to Marhi if the Rohtang La Pass is closed due to heavy snowfall. You can enjoy water sports activities here, and soak in the mesmerizing beauty of the Himalayas.
