SISSU - (HIMACHAL PRADESH)

Sissu also known as 'Khwaling' is a village located at the banks of Chandra River in Lahaul Valley at an altitude of above 3200 m and only 6 km away from the North end of the recently opened Atal Tunnel, Sissu attracts tourists all over. The village is surrounded by snow capped mountains, glacial river, waterfall, and road line with willow and poplar trees with a population of about 2000 people. Sissu is the ideal place to get a glimpse of the daily lives and the Buddhist Culture and Architecture of Lahaul Valley. Sissu forms a base and a gateway to 3 major destination in the Himalayas Ladakh, Lahaul and Spiti. Sissu is known for its various nature trails with stunning views over mountains and river valley, fishing trips, trekking, camping, rock climbing and star gazing.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHILE VISITING SISSU : 

1. The last petrol station before sissu is at a distance of 25 km be sure to carry extra fuel if you are traveling by your own vehicle. 

2. BSNL and Jio has the best connection in Sissu. 

3. Locals of sissu are very friendly and it is very common to be invited for food by residents. 

4. There are only a few ATM in Sissu. 

5. Atal Tunnel might be close during the events of an avalanche. Be sure to check the open status of the tunnel prior to travelling to Sissu. 

PLACES TO VISIT AND THINGS TO DO IN SISSU : 

1. SISSU WATERFALL

Located just 1 km away from the highway, sissu waterfall is a beautiful place to visit in Sissu. It falls from the height of about 50 meters. The waterfall can be seen from the highway as well. But the Trek to the base of waterfall is the experience which you surely don't want to miss. The water is contains comes from the glacier of the Himalayan Range. 

Sissu waterfall can be visited via trekking only to reach up there you need to cover a moderate 1KM Trek transverse between the two mountain ranges Pir Panjal and Himalayan mountain range along with Chandra River. 

2. SISSU LAKE

Located at 1 KM away from Village, the helipad sissu lake is a man made lake that is picture perfect beauty. The surrounding mountains ranges and the tranquility of this place give you inner peace. During Winter, due to heavy snowfall and low temperature, the lake gets frozen. There you can easily spend hours doing nothing. 

3. CAMPING

The lakes, Chandra lake, waterfall and surrounding snow capped mountains make it a great campsite. There you can set your own camp as well. You can seek help from locals to find a perfect spot to set a camp. There are a lot of private campsite as well where you can do camping in luxury. 

4 . GYEPHANG TEMPLE

Situated at top of Gyephang peak, Gyephang temple is dedicated to Lord Gyephang. According to locals, Lord Gyephang is the protector of the people in the Lahaul Valley. People from outside are not allowed to enter. 

HOW TO REACH 

By Bus - Sissu is located on the Leh-Manali highway. To reach up there by Bus ,first, you need to reach Manali. Either you can take bus from Delhi or Chandigarh to reach Manali. After the bus take from Manali Bus Stand to Keylong. after crossing Atal Tunnel take a drop at Sissu Village which is located around 6 Km from the Atal Tunnel. 

By Flight - Bhuntar is the nearest airport to Sissu around 90 km away. Take a bus from Bhuntar to Keylong or Leh and take a drop at Sissu Village.
