VISHRAM GHAT - MATHURA (UTTARPRADESH)



Vishram Ghat is a revered and sacred bathing ghat on the banks of Yamuna River at a distance of about 4.5 kilometres. Mathura Vrindavan is well known for the abode and divinity of Lord Krishna. Vrindavan where Lord Krishna spend his childhood, a treasure full of history and mythology has continued to shape one of the oldest cities. It is a city with great sacred importance to Hinduism it is also known popularly as the BRIJ BHOOMI ,to add the amazement, several ghats of the Yamuna River embrace this beautiful city. The most famous of these is the Vishram Ghat where the traditional ritual of Parikrama takes off every year a large number of tourist and devotees pay their visit to the most holy city of the world.

Vishram mean Rest and it is named so because of Lord Krishna rested here after killing the demon king, Kansa. There are 12 ghats to the north and 12 ghats to the south of it positioning it in the centre.

The Vishram Ghat architecture shows marble stonework, including a massive stone arch. The Vishram Ghat is lined with many temples and some of the most significant shrines such as Yamuna - Krishna, Murli-Manohar etc. Vishram Ghat displays a beautiful spectacle during evening at the time of evening prayers and aarti. Devotees float oil lamps and diyas on paan leaves into the adjoining Yamuna River.

A boat ride at Vishram Ghat is one of the top things to do in Mathura as it experience that helps you discover a different side to the city and helps you to capture scenic view of the River.


BEST TIME TO VISIT

The Best time to visit is in the month of October to March. Here in the Vishram Ghat the Aarti Morning timing are 7:00 AM -7:15 AM and in winters it's 6:45 AM - 7:00 AM the evining Aarti timings are 7:00 PM for both summer and winter.

HOW TO REACH 

Private Hired Vehicles are a convenient option. Nearest Railway Station is Mathura Junction which is about 4-5 kms away from the Ghar you can easily reach ghat through Rickshaws, Auto, Buses and Taxis etc. Vishram Ghat is approximately 2.5 kms away from Mathura Bus Stand.
