NEELKANTH MAHADEV TEMPLE - RISHIKESH (UTTRAKHAND)

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple located in Rishikesh is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Neelkanth am aspect of Lord Shiva. Situated scenically on a hill at a hight of 1330 meters, the temple lies above the Swargashram adjacent to Nar Narayan Mountain Range.

The temple is basically surrounded by three valleys namely Manikoot, Brahmakoot and Vishnukoot which makes it a regional place by the confluence of two rivers Madhumati and Pankaja.

This temple is one of the most important shrine in Rishikesh and visited by a lot of people, tourists every year. If you wish to visit Rishikesh then you must pay visit here. Here you will get the parking facility as well. There are also a lot of people you will see are selling lemonade, food and Pooja thali as well.

During the month of Shivratri and Shrawan huge members of followed come out and grace this place and express their devotion to the mighty Lord Shiva.

MYTHOLOGY

According to Hindu Mythology, this place got its name after the popular tale of Lord Shiva consuming poison, due to the intake of the poison his throat becomes blue after that named Neelkanth. Inside the templetemple, the walls deplict the story of Samundra Manthan to honour the sacrifice made by Mahadev for the entire world. 

WHEN TO VISIT

The best time to visit is the month of July and August and also during the Shivratri - The Night Of Lord Shiva. If you are unable to visit this time I recommend you to visit in the month of October To March to avoid rainy season.
