NAINITAL - NAINI LAKE (UTTRAKHAND)

Nainital Lake also known as Naini Lake is the major attraction of Nainital Town as Well as for the whole Uttrakhand . Surrounded by hills this lake is a favourite spot amoung Tourist as well as Local also it the most Visited lakes in India. Nainital is also named after Naini Lake which covers a perimeter of 2 miles with a depth from 28 meters to 6 meters. Naini Lake makes visitors fall in love with its alluring beauty. This lake as found back in 1839 by  a British Business Man who came across this lake on a hunting expenditure. Nanital surrounded by seven hills which are named as Ayarpata (2235 meters), Deopata (2273 meters), Handi Bandi (2139 meters), Cheena Peak (2611 meters), Alma (2270 meters), Laria Kanta (2418 meters) and the Sher-ka-Danda (2217 meters).

The lake offers the holiday makes ample opportunity for yachting, boating and paddling the boat. Boating rates for conventional rowing boats or Paddle boats are displayed on pre-paid booths at different places along lake side. It is a favourite destination for all family, friends and honeymooners and amoung those one day trip. Snugged amidst the beautiful Kumaon Town of Nainital, the Naini Lake is nothing than a fresh out of dreams. The crescent kidney shape freshwater lake is a popular tourist destination throughout the year. Naini Lake offers you a splendid experience, boating in the shimmering water and quacking with the Joyous Ducks.

MYTHOLOGY OF NAINI LAKE 

King Daksha who was the father of beautiful girls 'Sati'. As the time passes Sati reached the marriagable age, Daksha started looking for a suitable match for her daughter meanwhile she fell in love with Lord Shiva who Daksha didn't like and approve. Nonetheless, Sati and Shiva got married. Angry Daksh organized a Yajna which included a ritual of sacrificing something specific in the fire but he didn't invite Sati and Shiva. Disappointed yet in her Father's Love, Sati went to attend the ritual. Daksha disrespected the couple and Sati couldn't bear the insult and jump into the Yajna Fire. 

The news was beyond the bearing for Shiva and the enraged husband started performing'Tandava'. Amid the constant pleas by other Gods for Shiva to Stop, Lord Vishnu use his Surya Chakra on Sati's Dead Body and cut it into 51 parts which fell at different locations across the country. There is a Temple on the lake Side  called Nanini Devi Temple where Sati's Eye Fell and hence name after it.

Another historical related to Nanini lake is the mention of a water body in the Hindu Scripture'Skanda Purana' which is named as 'Tririshi Sarovar' or lake of three saints.

in the month of March April May June July are the best months to see lakes flora in full bloom and also the perfect time to enjoy Boating.
