PARASHAR LAKE - (HIMACHAL PRADESH)

Parashar Lake is located at 49km from North of Mandi (Himachal Pradesh) , a three storied pagoda like temple dedicated to the saga Prashar. The Parashar Lake which has perimeter of about 300 mtr is decorated by a floating island in it. It's crystal class adds clarm in the whole place. Parashar Lake is located at an elevation of 2730 m above sea level.

It has been said and beleive that the lake was formed as result of striking of rod (Gurj) by Rishi Parashar and water came out and took shape of the Lake. An Pagoda styled temple has been made it order to dedicate the Rishi Parashar , the patron god of Mandi region , stands by the Lake.Temple has been constructed by the King Ban Sen in 13-14th century with Rishi being present in the form of Pindi (Stone/Pattar). It took almost 12years to construct it and the whole Temple was built by using single deodar tree. 

Parashar Lake is nested between tall cedar trees. From the edge of the lake, tourists can see the glimpse of snow capped mountains and water streams of Satlej River flowing towards south. This place is available for visitors throughout the year except during the winter months, i.e. December to March. This Temple stands out to be unique from any other temples. Today people from all faiths come here. As an offering, people throw money, silver coins and gold into the water. Parashar Lake looks like a blue emerald in the midst of green pastures and gigantic mountain.

In the month of June "Saranauhali" fair takes place which is attended by a large number of locals as well as tourists.

HOW TO REACH 

The nearest airport is at a distance of 65km situated at Bhuntar in district Kullu 

The nearest Railway is narrow gauge line at Joginder Nagar at a distance of about 88 km 

The nearest Road is accessible from district Head Quarters Mandi about 50km


PARASHAR LAKE TREKKING ROUTE

There are two trek routes that are available to reach up to the Parashar Lake one is from the Baggi Village and another one is from the Panarsa. The one from Panarsa is the most preferred due to scenic beauty that it offers further the excellent road conditions through out the whole year make it more preferable.



Panarsa located 60km away from Mandi is easily accessible by road. From here, a journey of another 25km via cab/taxi will bring you to Jwalapur village is the base camp for the trek. On your way to the village, you will witness plenty of apple orchards and free flowing streams which becomes a heart- warming sight. From Jwalapur village a trek of 8km lined  with forest brings you to the majestic Parashar Lake.



The Trail to Lake Parashar is both serene and adventurous at the same time. Trekking for another 4-5 hours bring you to the much awaited heaven like majestic lake Parashar.

BIJLI MAHADEV MANDIR
Located at a distance of about 13km, Bijli Mahadev temple is one of the most sacred temples of Himachal Pradesh. The view from the temple located in Parvati valley is breathtaking beauty and also one of the most popular tourist destination.

DECHEN CHOEKHOR MAHAVIHARA MONASTERY
Dechen Choekhor Mahavihara Monastery located at a distance of about 8km situated in the Sarabai Village been built in the 16th century.

KULANTH PITH
9.8km away from Parashar Lake is another abode of devotees-Kulanth pith, which is one of the most sacred piths of India. It is believed that the mightiest of all Lord Shiva stayed there for some time as well Vishnu Kund situated at the place has its own religious significance and it is believed that bathing in the kund washes away all the sins.
