DAL LAKE - MCLEODGANJ (HIMACHAL PRADESH)

At a distance of about 3kms from Mcleodganj Bus Stand and 9km from Dharamshala, Dal Lake is a small mid-altitude lake situated near the village of Tota Rani on Mcleodganj- Naddi road in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh, India. Dal lake has a altitude of about 1,775 meters and is one of the popuar sightseeing attraction of Mcleodganj. The Oval shaped lake is surrounded by insanely dense deodar tree and is considered to be a scared spot as there is small Shiva Temple on its bank. 

According to legend, Sage Durvasa prayed to lord Shiva here. Every year during the month of September large number of Shiva devotees came here and attend famous festival at Lord Shiva Temple. The name "Dal Lake" is taken from "Kashmir's Dal Lake".

The Dal Lake is situated at a distance of about 8km away from the main market and can be reached via a taxi or car.
