ST. JOHN IN THE WILDERNESS CHURCH - DHARAMSHALA (HIMACHAL PRADESH)

The magnificent church is built in the beautiful valley of Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh. Located at a distance of about 8 kms away from Dharamshala, Built in 1852 at Forsyth Gunj. It is also one of the most important churches in Himachal Pradesh. It was built in dedication to John the Baptist. Surrounded by insanely dense forest and peaceful atmosphere with fresh air. This is also the final resting place of Lord Ergin, one of the governor general and also viceroy of India during the British Raj. The church is known to attract a lot of tourists and visitors on almost all days and especially on Sunday. On the outside, the Belgian Stained Glass windows are the main character and attraction of the church. 

While on the inside polished wood of the altar railing and old brass oil lamps which are now converted into electric light holders , make it very appealing. Along the walking path in the church, the holy symbol are artistically made with colourful stones.

The church is under Diocese of Amritsar at present, Rt.Rev.Dr.R.B Sandhu is the Bishop of Amritsar Diocese and Chairman Of Amritsar Diocesan Trust Association.

Situated on the Mallital Road, St. John In The Wilderness Church is easily accessible by a local Taxi. If You are staying near The Mall Road, You can walk to the Church. Nearest Railway station is Nagrota and Nearest Airport is Kangra.

In the month of March to June, the weather at Dharamshala is pretty comfortable and remains quite pleasant throughout. The summers are the best time for sightseeing purpose as winters can be harsh.
