VASHISHTHA GUFA TEMPLE - RISHIKESH (UTTRAKHAND)


Vashishtha Gufa is an ancient cave where Sage Vashishtha. Sage Vashishtha was a Manas Putra of Lord Brahma ( Human Son of Lord Brahma and also one of the seven great Sage (Saptarshi). Vashishtha Gufa is very popular among Visitors who comes for deep Meditation in Rishikesh, Uttrakhand. On the banks of the serenely flowing Ganga , give you Mental Peace. This place is Highly regard by all spiritual seekers and Mystery Lovers. The cave house a Shivalinga and is maintained by Purushottama and Society.

The cave is properly maintained and the floor is strewn with white mate for about 12 people. The interior of the cave is filled with some aroma of burning oil and sticks making it a  peaceful and spiritual meditational sanctuary. At the end of the cave , there is a Shiv Linga where you Normally would find tourists and priests engaged in worship. There is also an another cave outside the ashram called"Arundhati Cave" and an iron bridge across the river to the small yet beautiful Gular Village. The beach outside the cave is a perfect setting to relax and reflect with nature after a deep meditation and silent introspection.

VASHISHTHA GUFA/CAVE MYTHOLOGY

According to Hindu Mythology, after the death of all children of Sage Vashishtha, he decided to suicide in river Ganga but Goddess Ganga refused his suicide. The Sage Vashishtha's wife decide to stay at the same location as we today known as Vashishtha Temple.  Sage Vashishtha meditated here for long time in a cave. In 1930 Swami Purshottamanand decided to main this ashram which is today maintained by Swami Purshottamanand Society.






HOW TO REACH 

Vashishtha Aashram is well connected by road, Airways and Railways. Located at a distance of 25 km from Rishikesh on Badrinath Road. Nearest Railway station is Rishikesh Railway station at a distance of 25 km and nearest Airport is Jolly Grant Airport at a distance of about 39kms. One can easily reach there by Taxi. 





BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit is the months of February March April May June September October November and December.
