HAWA MAHAL - JAIPUR (RAJASTHAN)


Hawa Mahal also known as Palace Of Winds and Palace Of Breeze was built in 1799 as an extension to the Royal City Palace Of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Built with Red and Pink Sandstone. It was built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, who was also known as the founder of Jaipur. It allows the royal ladies during that period so that they to be able to watch any Procession and Activities on the street without being seen by the Public.

Hawa Mahal is the tallest building in the world without a foundation. It is located on the edge of the City Palace of Jaipur and extend right to the 'zenana'. This palace is decorated with 953 windows or 'Jharokhas' which are adorned with intricate designs, there is also a museum in the complex of Hawa Mahal famous for items like Miniature Painting and Ceremonial Armor. The design of building shows an incredible blend of Hindu Rajput Architecture with Mughal Architecture. Each window has a small chamber where one can sit and view the street. Fountains at the middle of each chamber complimented with the light wind flowing through the Jharokhas thus enhancing the cooling effect of the Chamber in the Hawa Mahal.

Hawa Mahal is good for a short time visit. You can have a beautiful view of its rear from the street first floor has a small fountain but is not working. There are 4 floors also here you can see sunset which also looks captivating and flabbergasted. Architecture is something to behold upon, Climb to the top to get the best view of City Palace of Jaipur definitely you will fall in love. A number of street vendors also sell delicious snacks like golgappas , bhelpuri and many more.
