LAKSHMAN JHULA - RISHIKESH (UTTRAKHAND)


Lakshman Jhula is an iron suspension bridge over the holy river Ganga at Rishikesh. Rishikesh also spelt as Hrishikesh, is a city and a tehsil in Dehradun district of Indian State Uttrakhand. Located at the foothills of the Himalayas in Northern India. Hindu sages and saints have visited Rishikesh since the ancient times to meditate in search of higher knowledge. Lakshman jhula is 450 feet in length connecting Pauri District with Tehri District. Rishikesh is also known as the Yoga Capital of the World.

Rishikesh is not only for meditation, religious beliefs, temples and ghats with in this ancient city, you can also witness some Architecture Marvel's also there. The destination is abuzz with visitors,who came here to learn more about Yoga and Meditation.

The Lakshman Jhula is well known amongst tourist because it is believed that Lord Lakshman the younger brother of Ram had crossed the river Ganga at this same site.

MYTHOLOGY OF LAKSHMAN JHULA

As per legends, Lord Rama younger brother Lakshman crossed the river Ganga on a jute rope. Later on a jute rope bridge Was built here in honour of Lakshman Ji. Till 1880 there was a 284 feet long hanging jute rope bridge which was washed way in Flood. A new bridge was built in 1930.
